The Books That Got Me Into Reading
The other day I was thinking about all of my favorite books and I realized that a lot of my favorites are books that came to me at an integral point in my life. All of these books came to me at the right time and something in them caused me to fall in love. I am so thankful these books that made me love reading and gave me the chance to escape to wonderful new worlds.
Princess Academy by Shannon Hale is the first book I remember reading by myself and loving. I made all of my friends read it and it was where my love for reading was sparked! To this day, Shannon Hale is one of my favorite authors. I have read 8 of her books and loved them all!
Frog Princess by E.D Baker was the first large series I ever read. There were 5 or 6 books out when I started them and I read them all in a few weeks. These are the books began my love for high fantasy and magic!
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan is my Harry Potter. While many people attribute a love of reading to J.K. Rowling, I owe my love to Rick Riordan. I wrote fan-fic, had costumes for all of the characters, and wrote skits about the series. I lived and breathed this series. It was the first series that I became obsessed with. If I had Tumblr back then, you bet your buttons I would have had a Percy Jackson themed blog.
Close to Famous by Joan Bauer is my favorite middle grade contemporary. Joan Bauer’s books got me through 6th grade and I am so thankful for that. They gave me girl to relate to and a chance to escape. Like Shannon Hale, I have read 5 of her books and love them!
The Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink was the first paranormal romance book I read. The characters were so vivid and the relationships were so complicated. The story is so dark and mysterious and I fell in love with the plot and the world. It is still my all time favorite paranormal romance book!
The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews was read to me by my mom. I remember loving the world and the story because it was so unique! It was my favorite book for most of elementary school. It is still one of the most uncommon books I have ever read and it will always hold a special place for me.
