Tumble and Fall Review
The world is living in the shadow of oncoming disaster. An asteroid is set to strike the earth in just one week’s time; catastrophe is unavoidable. The question isn’t how to save the world—the question is, what to do with the time that's left? Against this stark backdrop, three island teens wrestle with intertwining stories of love, friendship and family—all with the ultimate stakes at hand. (Synopsis and Image from Goodreads.)
If I am completely honest, I only picked this book up for the cover. Isn’t it stunning? But after looking at reviews I was afraid to read it. This novel has gotten lots of bad reviews, so I was wary to dive into it. Yet when I started this I could not put it down! I read the entire book in one  day! I gave it 5/5 stars on Goodreads because it thought this book needed some more love than it was getting. It was really more of a 3.5 star read, but my lowered expectations made me love this book and wish that it had higher ratings.
The characters absolutely had me hooked. This is a very character driven book, with the plot falling to the back ground. While the asteroid was placed on the back burner, I thought it was a nice change from all of the generic tsunami/zombie apocalyptic novels. I got lots of Morgan Matson vibes from this book, people living their lives and finding love along the way. While the characters did fall in love very fast, it did not seem too insta-lovey. They still took their time, even though they only had a week to live.
I thought this was a realistic portrayal of what life would be like on the event of an asteroid heading towards Earth. One character is on the hunt for someone they had lost and wished to find. Another’s mother is nagging them to stay home and spend time with family, but they just want to go and party with their friends. This book follows real people, not people who save the world, not people with a strong moral compass, not people who work for NASA. The characters were raw and realistic and it made the reading experience so much more unique.

Overall, this is not the best book ever, but it is not the worst. It did not make me feel the need to live each day like it was my last, but it did make me value the time that I have. The book was slow in some parts, but I never lost interest. The writing style and unique POVs had me eager to know what happened until the bitter end. I really did enjoy this book and I think fans of contemporary novels would adore it as a gateway to the apocalyptic genre. This book is absolutely worth your time, you just need to give it the chance that it truly deserves.
