Carry On: Spoiler Free Review

Carry On Review
When Simon Snow is eleven years old he goes to a magikal school called Watford, where he trains to be the “chosen one.” There is one problem though, he is the worst chosen one to ever be chosen. At Watford, he shares a dorm with his nemesis, Tyrannus Basilton Grimm-Pitch, or Baz for short, who may or may not be a vampire. Now, going into his final year at Watford, everything seems to be falling apart. Baz is missing, the Mage has no time for Simon, Simon’s girlfriend broke up with him, and the Insidious Humdrum is still on the loose. Carry On follows Simon and his friends through their magical last year at Watford, where they are trying to unravel all of the mysterious events that are occurring.
Carry On is Rainbow Rowell’s take on the chosen one story. It is based off of the fanfiction that Cath writes in her novel Fangirl. Both books are independent of one another, so you can certainly read Carry On without having read Fangirl.
Since I read Fangirl last year, I have been dying to get my hands on Carry On. I loved the little snippets that we got throughout the book and I was so excited to see where Rainbow Rowell took the story. I absolutely loved this book! The amazing magic system mixed with Rainbow Rowell’s addictive writing made this a five star book for me. I loved all of the quirky characters, the fast-paced plot, the air of mystery, and the complexity of the world. I flew through this book in two days and am already considering a re-read! It will certainly reappear on my top books of 2017 list!
I can honestly say that the thing I loved most about this book was the character development and the relationships they had with one another. They all worked so well together, each character heightening the qualities of another. I also adored the romance aspect of this book. It was not overpowering, but it added so much to the storyline.
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell is an amazing read. I would recommend it to anyone, whether they love fantasy or contemporary. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I absolutely loved it!
