March Wrap Up
I had an amazing reading month in March! I read a total of 7 books! That is a lot in comparison to the 2 that I read last month. They were all incredibly wonderful and I am so excited to see what April has in store!
Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard- Last month I re-read the Red Queen, so I was eager to get to this book. The Red Queen series follows a girl named Mare who lives in a world that is divided by blood. There are those with silver blood, who have God-like powers, and the red bloods, or the mortals. But, Mare discovers that she has powers of her own, despite having red blood. In an epic cover up, the royal family takes Mare in and things spiral down from there. I gave Glass Sword 4/5 stars. I really loved it, but it took a while for me to get into it. If you are looking for a new series to start, I would recommend that you check these out! I have really enjoyed them so far.
Kings Cage by Victoria Aveyard is the third book in the Red Queen series. There was so much action in this book and I loved it! There were lots of plot twists that I never would have foreseen. I gave this book 5/5 stars. It ripped my heart out and made me excited to read more!
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell- I gave this book 5/5 stars! I absolutely loved it! I wrote a spoiler free review on this blog that you should definitely go check out if you are interested in more of my thoughts on this one. Find that post here.
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh is a retelling of a thousand of one nights. Shahrazad's best friend is taken and killed by the king, so she goes to avenge her. But, Shahrazad soon finds herself torn between love and revenge. This book is absolutely stunning! Renee Ahdieh’s writing is beautiful and flowing. She builds complex characters that you cannot help but love. I adored this book! It kept me hooked until the last second! I gave this one 5/5 stars.
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls- I had to read this book for my literature class, but I really enjoyed it! This is a memoir that follows Jeanette through her interesting childhood. It was fascinating to see what it was like to live in the manner that she did, hopping from city to city, always on the run. I had mixed emotions about some things (that happens when you over analyze things for an essay), but I cannot deny that this was a gripping and honest read. I gave it 5/5 stars overall.
A Planet of Viruses: The Second Edition by Carl Zimmer- This book was another required reading. I read it for my biology class and I can honestly say I did not hate it. I am not a super sciency person, but this book made the topics more accessible. It is a bind up of multiple essays that the author wrote and I found it fascinating. He uses analogies that I can understand, plus rather simple language. I would not recommend it for leisurely reading, but if you like viruses, this is the book for you! I gave it a 5/5 stars, while it is absolutely not the best book ever, it is the best compilation of science essays I have ever had to read.
Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin is an alternate history that imagines the world as if the axis powers had won WWII. Our main character, Yael, competes in a cross-country motorcycle race, with the hopes of murdering Hitler when she reaches the finish line. This novel is so daring and adventurous! I loved the plot and the character development! I gave this one 4/5 stars.
